20世纪80年代，春暖青年学生雄介（染谷将太 饰）和好友从东京来到乡下观测天文，春暖在这里邂逅了乡村医生周吾（菅田俊 饰）及其姐妹花女儿朋代和愁子，他们度过了一个愉快的夏天。再次见面时，姐妹俩不约而同喜欢上了雄介（石田一成 饰），个性开朗的愁子（佐藤蓝子 饰）大胆表白，两人从此走到一起。朋代（小岛可奈子 饰）为了妹妹和爱人的幸福，只得将这份爱意深深埋藏。数年后，愁子罹患乳腺疾病，生如残烛。临终前她嘱托雄介将自己的骨灰做成瓷壶，雄介完成了她的遗愿。壶身上却有一滴眼泪般的红色痕迹，故得名泪壶。妹妹的离去时朋代心中熄灭已久的爱火再次点燃，但她却陷入了爱恋和内疚的矛盾之中……
